Charleston, the College of Charleston's 50 acre urban campus can often be distinguished by its brick-inlay sidewalks. The iconic Charleston architecture and overhanging Oak trees that are draped in Spanish Moss have provided the backdrop for a number of films including The Notebook and The Patriot. The student population is comprised of 10,000 undergraduate students and an additional 1,500 graduate students.

The College of Charleston consists of 8 colleges and schools including numerous acclaimed programs of study being offered to its students. There is a wide and diverse spectrum of student activities and communities on campus. The coastal city and cultural hub of Charleston is full of music venues, eateries, and entertainment; King Street is a favorite locale among students for its nightlife. Close to 20% of the student body is involved in the thriving Greek life on campus.

The College of Charleston Cougars compete at the Division I level in the Colonial Athletic Conference. The Cougars are nationally-competitive in the sports of baseball and basketball, producing many MLB and NBA players.

Notable alumni and attendees include architect Robert Mills (designed the Washington Monument), New York Yankee Brett Gardner, and singer/musician Edwin McCain.
