Nestled in Silicon Valley, just outside of Palo Alto, Stanford’s 8,000 acre campus offers a picturesque setting of the California Bay Area. The campus architecture, known as Mission Revival or Spanish-Colonial, is emphatic of the region and marked with red-tile roofing and solid sandstone masonry. Only 20 miles northwest of San Jose and 37 miles southeast of San Francisco, Stanford’s setting is suburban.

The University is organized into seven schools and is headed by an unparalleled faculty including: 19 Nobel Prize laureates, 24 MacArthur Fellows, 4 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 3 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients. Stanford provides access to a variety of student organizations, clubs, and events. Only freshman are required to live on campus, but most students choose to live on campus their entire stay. Approximately 10% of the 7,000 undergraduates are involved in Greek Life.

The Stanford Cardinal compete at the Division I level in the Pac-12 Conference. Outside of establishing high academic standards, the men’s and women’s athletic programs have also enjoyed success. The Cardinal have collected over 100 NCAA championships –second only to UCLA, of all Division I athletic programs.

Notable alumni and attendees include U.S. President Herbert Hoover, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and golfer Tiger Woods.
