Originally an all-male school designated as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas and requiring students to be members of the Corps of Cadets, the school desegregated in the 1960’s and is the largest school-system in the state. Located in College Station, a small metropolitan hub centered on the school, its campus covers more than 5,000 acres. According to U.S. News and World Report, Texas A&M ranks 25th among public universities in the U.S.

The University is the fourth largest in the country with more than 55,000 total students. Texas A&M has since expanded from its earlier origins to house 10 schools and colleges, including its highly ranked undergraduate and graduate schools of engineering. There are over 800 student organizations and clubs on campus and approximately 12% of the undergraduate student body is involved in Greek life. Texas A&M is one of six U.S. Senior Military Colleges and is still one of the largest uniformed student bodies in the country.

The Texas A&M Aggies compete at the Division I level in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and are followed by a loyal fan base, more famously referred to –collectively– as the 12th man.

Notable alumni and attendees include 10 Nobel Prize Laureates, a number of U.S. military generals, and New Orleans Saints co-owner Rita LeBlanc (Granddaughter of Owner Tom Benson).
