Founded in 1883 as the flagship institution of the state, Texas is a major space-grant and public research university, laying claim to an endowment of $6 billion in 2013. Located less than a quarter-mile from the state’s capital, a hub for the fine arts, music, festivals, and thriving nightlife, its 430 acre campus expanses an urban setting. The main campus is fittingly highlighted by the Main Building, a 300-foot tower located at the center of campus that is illuminated by UT’s school colors, Burnt Orange & White, on special occasions. Listed on the cusp of the nation’s top 50 national universities by U.S. News and World Report, the school is considered a “Public Ivy” and boasts several top-tier programs.

Texas offers nearly 300 degrees to its more than 50,000 students. The University is divided into 18 schools and colleges, including its highly touted McCombs School of Business and School of Law. There are over 900 student organizations and clubs on campus for students to participate in. The Greek life on campus is extremely visible with close to 14% of the undergraduate student-body involved.

The Texas Longhorns –fronted by the loveable Bevo the Longhorn– compete at the Division I level in the Big Twelve Conference (Big XII). The Longhorns are among the most recognized sports teams in all of college sports and consistently produce some of the top teams in the country.

Notable alumni and attendees include former First Lady Laura Bush, actor Matthew McConaughey, and Michael Dell (founder of Dell Computers).
